A monofilament top or mono-top is a wig with a transparent lace-like material on the top of it. Each individual fiber has been hand tied onto the lace. This allows you to change your parting on your wig whichever way you want. This process takes many hours and makes the wig more realistic. Monofilament top wigs can be created with either synthetic or human hair fibers. There are some wigs that feature a monofilament side part or button at the crown. Also, the fiber on the monofilament top wig will not feature any "perma-tease" or "perma-lift".
