Remembering Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul

Remembering Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul

Aug 17th 2018

For more than 50 years, Aretha Franklin's vocals have touched our souls. Aretha will forever be in our hearts and we will continue to sing her songs loud and proud as she once did.

Growing up in Detroit, Aretha sang at her father's church and was only 14 years old when she recorded her first album at that same church. From then on, she was able to not only share her voice with a church audience, but also to the rest of the world. The world had never seen anything like Aretha Franklin before. Aretha's four-octave range made her a force to be reckoned with both on record and on stage.

When Aretha sang about R.E.S.P.E.C.T meant to her, she had no idea the impact her song would have for African Americans, and women, and then everyone that felt marginalized because what they look like or who they loved. We all want a little respect.

In remembrance of Aretha, we have put together a collage of some of her hairstyles honoring her sense of fashion. We also remember the moment she sang "Plant My Feet on Higher Ground"  at the White House.

We miss you Aretha. You are loved by many and you have spread so much love, joy, and happiness to the world with your music.
